Qulliq Carving Class will be held over Zoom with three 2-hour sessions.
October 25 - 12:00pm - 2:00pm
October 27 - 12:00pm-2:00pm
October 28 - 12:00pm-2:00pm
Each student will receive a package with one soapstone block, 1 file, 1 curved rasp, three grits of sand paper (80, 120, 220), and hand picked cotton for the wick.
A qulliq is a seal oil lamp that was used by the Indigenous of the north. This class will learn the history and function of the qulliq, they will learn to carve soapstone using hand tools and design their own qulliq. The last day of class is dedicated to learning how to light their qulliq using household items.
